Mark, you are right on. The current turmoil is a risk and an opportunity. Business is moving to a more flexible work from home/office mindset and this will influence businesses’ cultures, patterns of behavior and expectations. Employees are learning new ways to work, where to live and how to prioritize their lives. Businesses are going to have to adapt to the labor pool’s attitudinal and locational adjustments. The new dynamics offer potential for positive changes. Some of the previous measures of promotability like long, long hours at the office and being able to fly anywhere any time for work are going to be less relevant. This will give women and people with fixed hours issues a chance to show that they can accomplish the work and excel. Also the social and consumer pressure on diversity will push organizations to act on diversity and inclusion even more. With the world’s demographics changing to more “minority” growth, businesses will have to accelerate their efforts on integrating diversity to maintain, grow and flourish. It’s an exciting time. And lots of work to be done to make it all happen.
