Mother/Mentor of Choice
How to get inspired, more successful and happier
My mother of choice, role model and superhero died. Aunt Pat rode horses, raced sports cars, sailed, danced the jitterbug, wore poodle skirts; she was funny, and sang rock and roll songs. What else can a kid ask for? I adored her. She showed me possibilities that I didn’t imagine existed. Most of all she paid attention to me, I felt seen and heard. She has left this planet, gone to the bigger playground in heaven. I deeply miss her and will forever be grateful for her loving support and inspiration.
Everyone benefits from the caring, encouragement and guidance that a mother figure provides. Maybe you didn’t get the perfect mothering at home, many of us didn’t. How can you get the nourishment and guidance you need to build confidence and motivation? Find and develop your own mother substitute. When you were young, an aunt, grandmother, teacher, minister, family friend, or neighbor may offer some of the understanding, coaching and inspiration that you were looking for.
As an adult, we still need inspiration, support and counsel. Having someone(s) in your corner to cheer you on, provide sage advice, and boost you up during challenging times, is invaluable. I recall times when I sat with Aunt Pat, sharing a meal and chatting about life. Somehow just being around her…
